Tour departs from
front of the hostel. From here you will drive to the ANZAC Battlefield
area to start an emotional and memorable tour.
On tour you will visit:

Ari Burnu (First ANZAC landing place)
Lone Pine Cemetery (Australian memorial)
Johnston's Jolly (Walk in the ANZAC trenches)

Please tell us before tour if you would like us to research or
locate an ANZAC grave. There are no registers out on the peninsula. |
TOURS RUN DAILY
The tour includes a 4-5 hour guided tour of the ANZAC area, all transportation,
lunch-pack and museum entrance fee.
WARNING!!
- There are very few toilets in the battlefield area. Go before tour!
- There are also very few bins so please collect your rubbish and put
it back on the bus so we can dispose of it responsibly later on.
- Take your bathers/togs/cossies/swimmers for a swim at lunchtime when
and if time and weather permits.
- There are no shops at the battlefields, so remember to buy water
and nibblies before you leave Eceabat.
- Remember to take sunscreen and a hat if you're not fond of direct
sunlight as there is minimal shade available. Shorts are fine to wear
on the peninsula but remember to wear sensible shoes as you will be
walking on uneven ground at times and there are snakes in the area.

Troy is a complex site. It has its own excavations team that returns every
year to try to unravel the mystery that is Troy.
This makes it an ongoing site where every year a piece of the puzzle is
uncovered and history is made known!

TROY TOUR ITINERARY:
Early morning departure form Eceabat where you will cross the famous Dardanelle
waters and proceed to the ancient site of Troy, 36km south of Çanakkale.
Our local english
speaking guide will tour you around the 9 city ruins on the site of Troy
explaining the people from the era, their houses and culture and the reason
for the final destruction of each city.
The commentary is filled with mythical stories of the site and surrounding
areas while filling you in on the history of the excavations, the excavators
and their findings.
At the site you’ll
be shown around:
• A replica of the wooden horse that you can climb into for a photo.
• Excavation information centre which holds exhibits from the work
underway.
• The fortification walls of Troy Vl with its tower and gateway
entrance.
• Temple of Athena - the focal point of a great annual festival
in honour of the goddess Athena.
• Schliemann’s trench - the discoverer of Troy?
• The entrance ramp to Troy ll.
• The sanctuary - an important religious centre of its time.
• The odeon – intended for the presentation of musical performances.
• Current excavations in progress.

Itinerary:
7.30 Depart from TJs Hostel.
8.00 Ferry crossing from Eceabat to Çanakkale over the famous Dardanelle
waters.
Breakfast includes Turkish pastries and a fruit juice on the run.
8.30 Arrival in Çanakkale and drive to the site of Troy, 36km to
the south.
* Tour the historic home of the Trojan wars at Troy with a local, english
speaking guide.
Here you will see the remains of 9 city levels destroyed over time by
different forms of destruction both human and natural. You will hear the
stories of the myth and the history behind the excavations.
* Depart for Ayvacik – a small non touristic town with a great Friday
market where you can buy all sorts of local produce, fruit & vegetables
and handicrafts. You’ll have plenty of time to wander around and
maybe even pick up a few bargains! You will have a pleasant choice of
local foods which you may buy for your lunch.
* Depart for Assos. A traditional stone house village set upon a mountainside
with a beautiful harbour down the bottom, overlooking the island of Lesvos.
Here we will tour the Temple of Athena on the highest point of the mountain
and have Turkish tea at a local Çay (tea) House which has an extraordinary
set of coffee tables to sit at.
* Late afternoon departure for Balabanli, your host TJ’s village.
Here you will wander the traditional village seeing sights such as the
old wheat crushing wheel and the thatched summer houses for the sheep.
Your day out will be topped off by a visit to TJs parent’s house.
A small stone built house which is full of Turkish hospitality and a cook
who can whip up a storm. TJs Mother will then delight you with her traditional
home cooked dinner in which we will all sit together as family and share
the meal.
* Late evening departure for Eceabat. Anyone wishing to go southbound
may be dropped off at the bus station in Ayvacik for an onward bus journey.

The Milo was partially sunk by the allies in October 1915 to create a
wave break to protect the ANZACs best harbour at North Beach. It was broken
in two by a storm on 18th Nov 1915 and now lies only half a foot from
its original position in 1915.
The wreck of the Milo off the shores of North Beach at the ANZAC site
is an underwater testimony to the strength and endurance of the men of
Gallipoli.
Itinerary:

Snorkel a WW1 craft & relax on the beach.
A good chance to search for relics along the shoreline.
12:00 Return to TJs Hostel
Trip includes:
Transport to and from Eceabat.
Snorkel equipment : mask, finns and snorkel.
English speaking activity leader.
Effort required:
The craft is a 150m swim from the shore.
The water is clear and as the wreck is only 7 metres under water, it is
easily visible from the surface so you could snorkel on top of the water
ans still get a great view.
SCUBA DIVING AROUND THE GALLIPOLI PENINSULA
Itinerary:
09:30 Depart from Eceabat
Scuba dive 2 sites/wrecks.
Lunch on board dive-boat.
19:30 Return to TJs Hostel
Trip includes:
Transport to and from Eceabat.
Full scuba gear and tank.
English speaking, qualified historical dive-site leader.
Qualifications required:
The dives offered depend on the qualification of the groups attending
on the day.
DIVE SITE INFORMATION :
There are 216 shipwrecks in and around the Gallipoli peninsula. These
wrecks cover a large variety of sea vessels, except gallions.
Dive depths range from 7m to 30m. Normal dive to static line dives can
be undertaken.
NOTE: SCUBA DIVING COURSES CAN BE ARRANGED FOR THOSE WISHING TO GAIN THEIE
QUALIFICATIONS.
Discovery dives can also be arranged for those who wish to try diving
for the first time.
