Princes' Islands, with deserted beaches, pine forests & ancient monasteries, these islands in the Sea of Marmara offer a restful break from the city. This is an easy day trip; most ferries from Istanbul (Sirkeci). On Buyukada & Heybeliada, walking or horse carriage are the only means of transport as cars are allowed only for essential services.

  Cappadocia
The region of Cappadocia boasts one of the worlds most dramatic landscapes. The lunar-like setting has become popular for hot-air ballooning. Natural cone formations, made from volcanic eruptions smoothed over time by wind & rain known as fairy chimneys, contain caves & labyrinths. As early as the 3rd century, those chimneys became a hiding place for early Christians.

  Mersin
Iis one of the most modern provinces of the palmlined avenues, city park & modern hotels region & a good base for visiting the nearby historical sites & beaches. Mersin is the largest port on the Turkish Mediterranean. In Mersin you may find all the comforts of a modern city & all the characteristics of the Mediterranean cities. The free zone makes the city an important business centre.

  Tarsus
Tarsus is the birthplace of St. Paul. Situated on the edge of the fertile Cukurova plain in the city is middle of cedar groves. The city is also the meeting place of legendary loves Antony & Cleopatra. To reach St. Paul's Cistern you pass through narrow streets of the city; the old houses on the sides will prepare for the things you will see. The tomb of Prophet Daniel is also here.

St. Peter's Church Antioch   Antakya
The biblical Antioch, is situated on the Asi River (Orontes) in a fertile surrounding. Antakya was once the capital of the Seleucid kings & the life they lead in Antakya was renowned for its luxury & pleasures during Roman times. The city was the centre of Christianity & had been visited by St. Paul & St. Peter. Hatay Museum houses one of the richest collections of Roman mosaics in the world.

Urfa (Harran)
According to the Old Testament, Abraham resided here & his father Terah died here. Harran is known for its interesting cone & cubic shaped dwellings. They are made of clay & known to be naturally very suitable for the hot climate of the region. These mud-brick houses are up to 4-5 metres high & this height is considered to be the other reason for cool & comfortable inside conditions.

  Mt. Nemrut
Was discovered in 1881. The site was constructed by Antiochus, who believed himself to be the descendent of Apollo so, he built a statue of himself along with those of Apollo, Zeus, Tyche & Hercules flanked by a lion & an eagle. An artificial mountain peak of rock 50 mts high is piled between the two ledges of the gods & some suspect Antiochus' tomb may be underneath it.
