Hagia Sophia, for almost a thousand years was a triumph of Christianity & the symbol of Byzantium & until the 16th century, maintained its status as the largest Christian church in the world. After the conquest of the city in 1453, the great house of worship became a mosque. Restored in 1935, now serving as a museum for all faiths...

The Temple of Athena was built on a site with a magnificent view overlooking the sea at a height of 238 meters. At present only a few of the temple's columns are standing but restoration work is in progress. The temple was built some time around 530 B.C. It is constructed of andesite rather than marble & has 6 by 13 columns & measure 14 by 30 meters in size.

The Gallipoli peninsula is located in Turkish Thrace, the European part of Turkey, with the Aegean Sea to the west & the Dardanelles to the east.
